Background/Experience that you think is beneficial to Doula work: My experience being a single mom at a young age allows me a unique perspective into the importance of having a doula. I understand how vital it is to have a solid supportive team during this transition into parenthood.
What led you to become a Doula?: I've been interested in birth work since I was in high school. I planned on doing doula work while I was in school to become a neonatologist. My plans changed and I realized that I wanted to make a deeper more personal connection with my clients, and how important having a doula is.
What are some positive comments made about you by other people?:
People say that I have a calming presence, and that they feel like they can open up to me about anything without being met with judgment. I also have been called dependable and hardworking.
What are your favorite pregnancy/parenting resources?: What to expect when you're expecting and what to expect the first year, the AAP and ACOG.
What thoughts come to mind when you see a pregnant woman or brand new mom?: It warms my heart when I see a pregnant person or someone with a newborn baby. I also understand how difficult this time can be in someones life, and I hope that their birth and journey into parenthood goes as smoothly as possible.
What is the best gift you can give a new mom (as a Doula)?: The best gift you can give new parents is time for sleep, and self care. Taking time for yourself is so important for being able to do your best as a parent. During labor the best gift you can give to a birthing person and their partner is any comfort measures and giving them a safe space to feel how they feel and reassure them of their strength.
What is your favorite TV show or movie?: The Office and Parks and Rec
What is your favorite place to vacation?: Smith Mountain Lake or any beach
What is your favorite food?: Cheeseburgers or sushi
What is your favorite way to spend a day off?: On my day off I love being able to spend quality time with my friends and family, and playing with my son as much as possible.
Who lives in your house?: I live with my parents, brother, son, and our dog Boomer.
