Meet Your ProDoula

Background/Experience that you think is beneficial to Doula work: I love to serve others. I have worked for pay and volunteered in various positions where I either served strangers or fellow moms. It is a gift I have been given, and brings me great joy to anticipate the needs of others. As a mom of 5 kids, with my youngest 2 adopted when I was "older" I have always been looked up to by younger moms for advice and mentoring. This joy of mentoring younger moms, especially first-time moms, spurred me on to pursue being a doula while I continue to teach various classes.

What led you to become a Doula?: Before I became a mom I taught elementary school. I love education. I love learning and now teaching. That passion steered me towards teaching childbirth classes. As I delved into birth work I reignited my desire to be a doula, but the time wasn't right. When my youngest started 1st grade I knew it was time to pursue being a doula. I am now a labor doula, bereavement doula and postpartum doula.

What are some positive comments made about you by other people?:

“She’s so dependable.” “If I give her a task, I can forget about it because I know it will get done.” “Thank you for an amazing class.” “Experienced, calming, full of labor techniques…Charlotte has a gift and heart for this field and gives 100% during and throughout.”

What are your favorite pregnancy/parenting resources?: The Birth Partner book, Womanly Art of Breastfeeding book, Happiest Baby on the Block book, Natural Childbirth the Bradley Way book,, FB groups-Cleavage Club, Tongue-Tie Babies, Respectful Sleep Training/Learning, LLL, Local moms groups, local IBCLC,, ME!

What thoughts come to mind when you see a pregnant woman or brand new mom?: I want to witness their birth! I hope they took time to get educated about what labor will be like, what to expect and how to give informed consent. I hope they have a good support system. I hope they have friends and/or a moms group to hang out with. I want to hold that little squish! I hope they get help if they have issues breastfeeding, and know where to get the help. I hope they recognize PP depression and have help if they need it.

What is the best gift you can give a new mom (as a Doula)?: Free breastfeeding consult! or an hour of PP care; water bottle-so they drink plenty; a meal or help them start a meal train
