Meet Your ProDoula
Background/Experience that you think is beneficial to Doula work: I've been a Registered Nurse for over 20 years and have transitioned into supporting birthing people during labor and postpartum and I truly love it! I feel I can connect with a birthing person and partner on a deeper level than when I worked as a nurse. Supporting new families as they navigate the transition with a new little one is an amazing experience and I'm honored to be on this journey with families.
What led you to become a Doula?: Over the last five years whenever I would speak to others about birth I would feel a deep emotional response that would sometimes bring me to tears. In late 2019, I offered to be the birth support for a coworker and started looking into being a birth doula so I knew how to better support her in labor. Looking into being a birth doula resonated deeply with me and realized this is what was bringing forth tears in me when I would talk about birth with friends and coworkers. I attended my friends birth amidst the beginning of the lockdown and it's an amazing experience to be able to support someone during their labor. I received birth doula training in 2020 and have been honored to support families during labor. I added postpartum support in 2022 as the fourth trimester is a time of great change and potential stress for families adding a new little one to their family and I want to be able to help support and navigate this time with families as well.

This was my first time giving birth and I was referred to Doris by my midwife at my birth center. I’m so glad I reached out to her! I was originally planning to have an unmedicated water birth at the birth center, but my labor lasted over 19 hours without any progression so we decided to transfer to the hospital. Labor was extremely hard & exhausting for me but Doris knew exactly how to help me breathe and maintain my calm through ALL of my contractions (non stop from 3am to 9pm at the birth center). Then when we decided to transfer to the hospital at night, she still stuck by our side and stayed the night at the hospital with me & my husband until I gave birth to my beautiful son the next morning! Her support meant the world to us and I’ll never forget how having such a patient & loving doula by your side can impact your birth experience!!
