Meet Your ProDoula

Background/Experience that you think is beneficial to Doula work: I am a Certified Postpartum & Infant Care doula and Certified Postpartum Placenta Specialist with ProDoula. I am also a Certified Full Spectrum Doula, Certified Lactation Counselor and teach childbirth education classes locally. I am on the DEI and Advocacy Committee with the Maine State Breastfeeding Coalition as well as the Advocacy Committee for Mabel Wadsworth Center.

What led you to become a Doula?: I hold space for folks throughout all their reproductive journeys as a Full Spectrum Doula, Childbirth Educator + through inclusive CLC infant feeding support. My goal is to honor your intuition so you feel your choices and preferences are supported every step of the way. I am openly passionate about local advocacy work collaborating closely in community on legislation that aligns with the Reproductive Justice framework. As a queer, single parent I am extremely passionate about accessibly to this community care support.

What are some positive comments made about you by other people?:

We hired Hannah of Peony Doula Co. to be our Doula for the birth of our second daughter. She came into my life in a time when I went from being totally confident about giving birth with our first daughters pregnancy to being quite fearful and desperate to have a birth experience that would provide much needed healing with this pregnancy.

I did a lot of research when trying to find a Doula for several reasons. One reason was the extra birth expense. I wanted to make sure that the support we received would be worth the money as we are a one income household and have a tight budget. I can promise you that Hannah is so worth finding the money in your budget to hire her. Hannah loves what she does so much, and it shows by how passionate she is for caring for birthing individuals. She is constantly adding credentials to her name by keeping herself up to date with as much certifications and knowledge as she can to best serve her clients. Another major reason I researched so thoroughly when choosing a Doula was that we wanted to find someone we felt totally comfortable bringing into our sacred and very intimate space. I also wanted to find someone who was trauma informed because of my previous birth experience.

I knew when I found Hannah’s profile that she was the right Doula for me. I was only hoping she would be available for our birth, and thankfully she was! She went above and beyond in every way to provide the care and extra TLC I needed during pregnancy whether that be phone conversations to go over plans, holding space for feelings, offering suggestions or resources, and so much more. After spending pregnancy, labor, and postpartum working with Hannah I felt as though I gained a friend. Hannah was invaluable to me and I felt truly cared and wanted to make sure I had the birth she always said I deserved.

During labor Hannah really listened to our desires of how we wanted this experience to be different. Although I had wanted a home birth due to previous severe postpartum hemorrhage I was not a good candidate for a home birth. Hannah helped me figure out ways that I could still have the birth I wanted within the hospital/medical system. She worked as a unit with my husband to provide me with the support I needed, advocated when it was necessary, worked alongside the other members of the birth team, made sure that I was following through on all my desired requests for reminders, and providing continuous encouragement and care.

With all this and more Hannah also took many photos and videos (literally a multitasking magician taking photos and videos at the same time!) which were something I missed out on for our eldest daughters birth and so now I have tangible proof of how purely incredible this birth truly was. I will forever cherish them especially since she was the one capturing some of the most special moments of our lives. If you are looking to hire a Doula, which I really encourage, please do yourself a courtesy and hire Hannah of Peony Doula Co.! You will not regret hiring such a wonderful human being who’s truly passionate about providing the care that is individualized to you. – Christine, a birth doula client
