Background/Experience that you think is beneficial to Doula work: Studied Early Childhood Education at Sullivan University, Louisville
What led you to become a Doula?: I have always been interested in working with Families and babies! When I began planning for my first pregnancy I realized that I have a passion for birth work. My pregnancy and birth experience did not disappoint. I now would love to be able to support mothers in having their own empowering birth and postpartum experiences.
What are some positive comments made about you by other people?:
I have been described as a good listener, with compassion and patience. I have a non-judgmental attitude, which enables me to work with all different kinds of families regardless of their plans or beliefs.
What are your favorite pregnancy/parenting resources?: Kellymom.com- great breastfeeding resource ‘The Birth Partner’ Fitpregnancy.com – although not evidence based, I enjoyed reading the magazines and online articles during my own pregnancy
What thoughts come to mind when you see a pregnant woman or brand new mom?: I have always gravitated toward pregnant and new moms but I never quite had the words to say. Now that I am working in the field and have my first child my instinct is to simply ask her how she is doing and meet her where she’s at.
What is the best gift you can give a new mom (as a Doula)?: To just be there as a sounding board for all of those thoughts and questions that pop up during pregnancy, birth, and after. To be supportive of all of her new found motherly instincts. And when the time comes provide physical support and comfort measures during birth.
What is your favorite TV show or movie?: I’m a Grey’s Anatomy and Bachelor/Bachelorette junkie... don’t judge!
What is your favorite place to vacation?: My husband and I went to Costa Rica for our honeymoon. I would go back for every vacation if I could!
What is your favorite food?: Mexican! It’s always our first choice whenever we go out and I make it often for dinner as well!
What is your favorite way to spend a day off?: Going on adventure with my little family! We love going on impromptu day trips, concerts, and athletic games.
Who lives in your house?: Me, My Husband Mark, My Son Landon, and my Golden Retriever Kuzie.
