Background/Experience that you think is beneficial to Doula work: I've been a doula for over a decade. In addition to nurturing families, I'm a ProDoula trainer who teaches others how to nurture families with compassion and excellence.
What led you to become a Doula?: After supporting the births of my nieces I knew that the birth room was a space I was comfortable in, that I understood and felt purposeful in.
What are some positive comments made about you by other people?:
“Leanne taught me key skills around feeding, soothing and babywearing. She gave me tonnes of reassurance regarding normal baby development and boosted my confidence. I can’t say enough good things. We were immediately comfortable with Leanne in our home. It felt like having an old friend helping me care for the baby and myself. She far exceeded my expectations and was a tremendous source of reassurance, wisdom, understanding and support. Leanne has been a ray of light during a tough time of transition. She is straightforward, down to earth and generous with her time and knowledge.”
What are your favorite pregnancy/parenting resources?: I love the Wonder Weeks for helping parents understand that sometimes babies go through phases where they are difficult and it's totally normally. But, most importantly, it shows them that those difficult phases will pass.
What thoughts come to mind when you see a pregnant woman or brand new mom?: I am so excited for all of their wonder and hope for the transformations ahead of them.
What is the best gift you can give a new mom (as a Doula)?: The best gift I could possibly give a new parent is freedom from fear and frustration. To have reassurance and gain a greater sense of peace as a new parent is really priceless.
What is your favorite TV show or movie?: I will take any Jane Austen movie or miniseries that is ever made!
What is your favorite place to vacation?: Give me a cabin in the mountains, next to a stream, with a fire and the rustle of trees and I'm incredibly happy.
What is your favorite food?: All of the foods?! I think I'll never get sick of a good burrito.
What is your favorite way to spend a day off?: My ideal day off is curled up on the sofa with the sound of my family around me, a good British crime drama on the TV and my knitting in my hands. If I could have someone regularly bring me hot tea and snacks I'm probably be so happy and content I'd float off on a cloud.
Who lives in your house?: Two cats who herd myself, my two growing boys and my husband live in our home.
