Background/Experience that you think is beneficial to Doula work: I have been a labor and delivery/postpartum/infant care RN for 30 years. I also became a Childbirth Educator, and a Board Certified Lactation Consultant. I love working with new parents and babies. I also enjoy seeing them succeed in achieving their goals for labor, birth, and breastfeeding. I am nearing the end of my career as a nurse, and would like to extend my knowledge, experience, and support to the postpartum woman, infant and family during this very vulnerable time as a Postpartum & Infant Care Doula.
What led you to become a Doula?: When I was 16 years old, I gave birth to my first son. I was so impressed with the nurses and physicians who took very good care of me during that process, and I knew it was the career that I wanted to have one day. It was the caring and compassion that they had that impressed me the most. As a labor and delivery nurse, I have attended many births and have developed many labor support skills, as well as skills to give excellent support and caring for families postpartum. I have also attended births for several friends as their birth doula, and enjoyed giving that support, especially the 2 home births which I attended. This has all led me to the desire to end my working years as a Doula.
