Meet Your ProDoula

Background/Experience that you think is beneficial to Doula work: My passion for doula work began with the birth of my second child and eventually came to the surface within me while providing support to my sister in law for the birth of her second child (first unmedicated). This experience sparked a curiosity and passion that has been growing ever since. I completed my training and certification as a labor doula and immediately jumped feet first into the world of being a birth worker. I am passionate about supporting the type of birth that my client desires. I lean upon my experiences with my own births as well as those of the women I have supported in the past; however, every birth is unique and I enter each meeting and birth with open eyes and an open heart allowing the experience to flow. I am there to support and encouragement based on the desires of my client; like a fly on the wall that's really good at hip squeezes!

What led you to become a Doula?: I had two very different birth experiences with the first being a medicated hospital birth where I felt one or two contractions! My second was a totally unmedicated home birth that lasted about 5 hours in total. I had a doula for my second birth and gained some knowledge of the role of a doula within the birth space. A while later I supported my sister in law who was inspired by my second birth. I left that birth knowing that I wanted to be a doula and make this my life's work. She gave me consistent motivation and encouragement to pursue this passion. I began studying, reading, and learning as much as I could about what a doula is and does as well as the best possible program through which to become certified. I believe I found that program with ProDoula!

What are some positive comments made about you by other people?:

“She is sweet and passionate about this (work). She has opened my eyes to so much.”
“She gave me the knowledge and confidence I needed and was amazing in the labor and delivery room in making me comfortable and kept me focused on my goal to birth the way I planned.”
“She guided me through those tough weeks of breastfeeding. When I wanted to give up, she was always there supporting me through it all. She is amazing.”
“I couldn’t be doing this without you.”

What are your favorite pregnancy/parenting resources?: My all time favorite pregnancy book is "Orgasmic Birth". It opened my eyes to so much while I was pregnant with my second and led to my choice to have a home birth. "The Birth Partner" "Creating Your Birth Plan"

What thoughts come to mind when you see a pregnant woman or brand new mom?: Pregnancy is so beautiful! Pregnant women always seem to glow, even when they are frazzled, tired, or just over it. I absolutely love to see mothers breastfeeding their babies in public. I think it is so awesome to see it becoming so mainstream.

What is the best gift you can give a new mom (as a Doula)?: The best gift I could give to new parents as a birth worker is my unbiased, nonjudgmental support of their birthing and parenting choices. As a doula that is what I am here for and I don't take the responsibility lightly.

What is your favorite TV show or movie?: The Big Bang Theory. Friends comes pretty close too!

What is your favorite place to vacation?: Disney

What is your favorite food?: Cookies

What is your favorite way to spend a day off?: Relaxing at home with nothing important to do! Or if the kids are home too, I like to take them somewhere fun like the zoo, an amusement park, Chuck E Cheese, etc.

Who lives in your house?: I live with my husband of 7 years, our beautiful daughter, our adorable son, and 4 kitties.
