Meet Your ProDoula

Background/Experience that you think is beneficial to Doula work: I am a former Special Education teacher, where I worked in a special needs classroom and worked with children with moderate to serve special needs. Through my high school and college years, I worked at childcare facilities where I often worked in the Infant rooms.

What led you to become a Doula?: I have always had a big heart for babies and always drawn to them when entering a room! Once having my own babies, I found that I loved talking about my own experiences with birth and newborns. Even more, I loved hearing other moms talk about their own experiences. My favorite ministry to be involved within recent years has been providing meals for moms who have recently had babies! Once finding out a Postpartum Doula was an actual thing, I quickly researched and found a way to start my journey!

What are some positive comments made about you by other people?:

Organized, detail oriented, passionate, a leader, gives her best efforts, loyal and committed friend, and a good listener. Can be friends with a wide range of people while still being herself and honoring her values.

What are your favorite pregnancy/parenting resources?: My favorite resources would have to be the mamas in your very own circle, could be family or friends who share the same values as yourself. I also, find myself on the internet, finding researched based articles or personal experience blogs.

What thoughts come to mind when you see a pregnant woman or brand new mom?: A pregnant mama: How far along is she? Is she feeling sick? Is she mentally preparing for the birth of her baby? Is she nesting yet? Wonder if I can help her set up her nursery? A brand new baby: Wonder if she/he is breastfed or formula fed? Bottle or not? Can I hold them and feed them, so I can smell their baby smell? Wonder if she has a happy temperament or a little fussy? I wonder how mom is sleeping? I wonder if mom has a good support system to help her with this transition of having a newborn?

What is the best gift you can give a new mom (as a Doula)?: Unconditional support and a listening ear. Compassion and empathy!

What is your favorite TV show or movie?: Friends. This is Us. Just about anything on Food Network or HGTV. Feel good movies!

What is your favorite place to vacation?: I just recently went, but I would have to say Hawaii! Beach and mountains all in one place.

What is your favorite food?: Seafood. Anything from Cajun to Asian.

What is your favorite way to spend a day off?: Hanging out with my family & friends. It’s always fun and relaxing to find local spot on the patio for lunch or dinner!

Who lives in your house?: My husband, Brandon. Our two ginger girls, Maddy (8) and Abby (4) along with our dog Jax.
