Meet Your ProDoula

Background/Experience that you think is beneficial to Doula work: My medical and educational background along with the wisdom and patience that comes with age.

What led you to become a Doula?: Giving birth is one of the most life-changing, transformational events ever. Every woman deserves the best possible birth experience and having a doula helps. Plus, I LOVE to hear birth stories!

What are some positive comments made about you by other people?:

“You were born to doula!”

What are your favorite pregnancy/parenting resources?: Britta Bushnell, PhD is a great source of knowledge and I highly recommend her book, "Transformed by Birth: Cultivating Openness, Resilience, and Strength for the Life-Changing Journey from Pregnancy to Parenthood.” Any book by Penny Simkin.

What thoughts come to mind when you see a pregnant woman or brand new mom?: Let me help you have the best birth (or early newborn) experience possible! I hope they are getting enough support and sleep to appreciate every moment of this adventure. Does she know what a doula is??!!

What is the best gift you can give a new mom (as a Doula)?: As your doula, my primary responsibility is to YOU-not the nurse, midwife, or doctor. My essential role is to provide continuous labor support to YOU, no matter what decisions you make or how you give birth. I will be there for you without bias or judgment. I will support you in the birth experience you want. And the confidence to trust their instincts.

What is your favorite TV show or movie?: Call the Midwife. Any medical reality shows.

What is your favorite place to vacation?: Hawaii with my sisters or camping anywhere with my husband. And the occasional trip to Disneyland!

What is your favorite food?: Thai!

What is your favorite way to spend a day off?: A perfect day for me would involve swimming, sunshine, a trip to the library, ending with good food shared with friends and family. There would probably be a nap in there somewhere too!

Who lives in your house?: My husband of 35 years, one of our two sons and Buster the beagle.
