Meet Your ProDoula

Background/Experience that you think is beneficial to Doula work: Foster Parent; Parent of 4; 10+ years experience in children's and youth ministry; Prior Certified Nurse Assistant degree (Expired)

What led you to become a Doula?: It was a variety of things that led me to birth work. I have been involved in a variety of things that have placed me in contact with mothers and children who are looking for support. I've always been interested in pregnancy and child birth but some of these experiences guided me toward helping parents grow their families and offering support as they do.

What are some positive comments made about you by other people?:

I’ve been told I am helpful, comforting, real and open, loving, loyal, caring, and passionate.

What are your favorite pregnancy/parenting resources?: Pregnancy: The Pregnant Body Book by DK Publishing (simply for the amazing pictures!); Natural Hospital Birth by Cynthia Gabriel; The Simple Guide to Having a Baby by Walley Simkin, Keppler, and Durham; Parenting: Parenting Beyond Your Capacity by Reggie Joiner; You Can’t Make Me But I Can Be Persuaded by Cynthia Tobias; Discipline That Connects With Your Child’s Heart by Jim and Lynne Jackson; *Also, several Facebook groups filled with moms, parents, doulas and/or professionals

What thoughts come to mind when you see a pregnant woman or brand new mom?: I have found that I tend to pick out how the mother looks emotionally and physically, if she appears to be in good spirits, tired, overwhelmed, happy, etc... Once baby is born, I notice how the mother interacts with baby, if baby looks healthy
