Meet Your ProDoula

Background/Experience that you think is beneficial to Doula work: Paramedic since 2015 (EMT 2012 - 2015), South Carolina Midwife Apprentice since 2016 / Midwife Student since 2013 and Doula since 2014.

What led you to become a Doula?: Ever since I was little, I wanted to do something with delivering babies. I was originally studying Pre-med to become an OB. On that path, I realized that I did not want to be limited under hospital protocols and regulations (locally, the OBs do not even enter the room until baby is crowning). I wanted to really get to know the mother and family and support them, not just walk in at the last minute. I found Midwifery to be exactly what I was looking for, and I am now an Apprentice. When I began attending births, I realized that most of what the midwife does during labor until close to the actual delivery is educate the woman about her options, support her choices, and assist with comfort measures. I took my first doula training as a way to learn more about the non-medical side and comfort measures. I discovered that I really love this role, and I enjoy being able to support clients through their pregnancy and labor.

What are some positive comments made about you by other people?:

People have called me calming, nice, and kind.

What are your favorite pregnancy/parenting resources?: Evidencebasedbirth.org; Cochrane.org; Mayoclinic.org

What thoughts come to mind when you see a pregnant woman or brand new mom?: I find it interesting to reflect on how much life can change in a relatively short amount of time; a new baby can change everything so dramatically.

What is the best gift you can give a new mom (as a Doula)?: Peace, a break from the stress of having a new baby, and a boost of confidence that they are doing just fine.

What is your favorite TV show or movie?: Shark Tank

What is your favorite place to vacation?: Gatlinburg, TN

What is your favorite food?: Beef Gnocchi Alfredo

What is your favorite way to spend a day off?: Snuggling on the couch with my baby and a good book

Who lives in your house?: My husband and I with our infant daughter and pets (a dog and cats)
