Meet Your ProDoula

Background/Experience that you think is beneficial to Doula work: For five years, I worked as an in-home behavioral therapist for children on the autism spectrum and provided physical, emotional, and educational support to their families. I also hold a Bachelor’s degree in women's services with an emphasis in counseling.

What led you to become a Doula?: It was in preparing for the birth of my first child that I realized how life changing these moments are and how having a stellar support system can make all the difference to the entire family.

What are some positive comments made about you by other people?:

People that know me say that I am steady, loyal, driven, calm under pressure, reassuring, adaptable, and have a great sense of when to be gentle and when to be firm when providing emotional support.

What are your favorite pregnancy/parenting resources?: The Birth Partner by Penny Simkin is what I recommend most often.

What thoughts come to mind when you see a pregnant woman or brand new mom?: Does she know she's amazing? Does she have a good support system? I hope she doesn't feel alone. Does she know she has choices available to her if she wants them? Does she know she's doing a great job?

What is the best gift you can give a new mom (as a Doula)?: The realization of her own confidence that is already within her. Meeting her where she is in the moment without judgment.

What is your favorite TV show or movie?: How I Met Your Mother gets me every time.

What is your favorite place to vacation?: Our family loves to go to the ocean which is just over an hour from our home. It makes for the perfect mini getaway.

What is your favorite food?: Anything fresh from the garden. Garlic. Sauce. Is sauce considered a food? I love sauces! Pretty much anything that I don’t have to make myself, although I do love to cook!

What is your favorite way to spend a day off?: I would grab an iced coffee or frappuccino and head to my favorite park on the Puget Sound and hunt for sea glass! I love to beachcomb!

Who lives in your house?: My husband, myself, and our three girls.
