Background/Experience that you think is beneficial to Doula work: I am co-owner and founder of Frederick Moms and Doulas. I am dual trained by two organizations including ProDoula, and have extensive experience providing birth support in various labor settings and scenarios. I have also completed Lactation Management training and received my degree in Psychology. Being a mother myself, I also have first hand knowledge of what expectant and new mothers are thinking, feeling, and desire.
What led you to become a Doula?: I had a complicated birth with my daughter, however I was blessed to have two doulas by my side. Without their support, I'm unsure that I would have achieved the empowering and positive birth experience that I remember. I decided I wanted to be the person to help provide that same kind of support to other women.
What are some positive comments made about you by other people?:
I am told that I am highly empathetic and compassionate, as well as organized and efficient.
What are your favorite pregnancy/parenting resources?: The Birth Partner, Kellymom.com, and Ina May's Guide to Childbirth.
What thoughts come to mind when you see a pregnant woman or brand new mom?: How exciting! I hope she is enjoying this time and is surrounded by people that love her.
What is the best gift you can give a new mom (as a Doula)?: Unwavering support. Being a new mom is the best and most overwhelming time. Providing a shoulder to cry on, a hand to hold, or a voice to cheer you on is always the most rewarding part of my job.
What is your favorite TV show or movie?: This Is Us, Friends, and Scandal
What is your favorite place to vacation?: Wherever I can put my toes in the sand!
What is your favorite food?: Sushi
What is your favorite way to spend a day off?: Relaxing outside, reading a good book, or catching up with my girlfriends.
Who lives in your house?: I'm lucky enough to share my 100 year old home with my hard working husband, my sassy daughter, and our puppy Parker.
